Having an Android phone is a plus. Double it up with 3G Voice and Skype for Android can just be the gadget that you would want to adorn your pocket this festive season. Things are looking brighter for Android owners as according to new developments, an updated Skype client for Android devices has just released in the market. The new release boasts of two improvements. One improvement is that it offers a security patch. The other bonus feature is the support for voice calls for 3G networks all around the globe.

Users of Android devices particularly those with a version of 2.3 and above can rejoice as the software comes absolutely free. Available in Google’s Android market, users can make mobile calls on the Skype network apart from able to forward calls, sent instant messages and make low rate calls on landlines.

The improvement scores high too on users scale as earlier there was a chance of third parties exploiting any private profile information or message that had an open status on the handset and was cached locally. With this improvement, all that data could be saved from getting misused.

The Skype team supported the cause that it was important to do something about the security problem but it was equally important to boost calls over the mobile broadband. This is important as compared to this year when Skype partnered with Verizon Wireless last year to be the only official carrier to grant 3G calls, other networks did have a hard time.

However, what users are happy about is the fact that apart from making voice calls, they are able to make one to one video calls over the 3G connections as well as Wi-Fi. What the Android users require there handset (which should be more than 2.3 of the Android version) to have a front facing camera. If you are an owner of such an Android device, then you are free to make video calls to any Skype contact on the iPhone, Mac and Windows PC. In the words of Neil Stevens, Skype’s Vice President, it is their target to enable Skype Video calling feature to as many platforms that would be possible. He quotes a figure which is nearly 30 million users claiming that such a big number logs into Skype at a given point of time thus taking the number of video calls which adds to about half a million. That’s quite a number to support Skype for Android.

With 3G voice which supports voice calls globally, this Android feature has taken the device to new heights. The addition of more user friendly features to the interface has made an Android device a gadget to die for. The new menu helps the user to navigate through the contacts more easily. At the same time, users can browse through their profiles at ease, make additions or deletions to their personal account and also take a sneak peak into the Skype credit. The additions are topped with a mood message box displayed at the very top of the Skype app menu. Users have the opportunity to display their current status or any message that they want to share with their contacts.
