Transfer Cap is the Download and Upload limit set. We can use Transfer Cap in uTorrent to stop dowloading or uploading files in torrent after it reaches a particular size over a period of time. For example, say your monthly limit is 10 Gb, you can set the transfer cap in utorrent to 8 Gb  and specify one month time or accordingly so that , in a month uTorrent will not transfer more than 8 Gb.

This feature is very useful for those who are using limit Internet Connection and also cannot often check how much bandwidth they are crossed. Transfer in uTorrent can specify the following.

  • Download Limit
  • Upload Limit
  • Time period ( The Download / Upload data resets after the time period)

How to Set Transfer Cap in uTorrent

  1. Open uTorrent and in Menu Bar Select Options -> Preferences ( Ctrl + P)
  2. In the Left Panel Choose Transfer Cap.
  3. Check the box ” Enable Transfer Cap “.
  4. In the Radio button Below select the option ” Download + Upload “.
  5. In the below text box enter the Transfer cap size ( after reaching which your torrent must not start ) and in the next text box enter the time period ( for how many days should the limit be considered).
  6. Click on ” Reset History “.
  7. Starting from now on until the specified number of days, the transfer will be monitored and the torrents will be stopped on reaching the limit.

It didn’t work for me…Once the transfer cap limit was reached I reset for the new month but it still said the transfer cap had been reached…..It wasn’t till I actually exited the program and restarted it did it actually work.

This was a fantastic idea utorrent came up with, I have only a 7gb limit and have gne over many time because I lost track of how much I had downloaded, but now utorrent keeps track of it for me!!

    Love it:)

I have reset history after transfer stopped due to capped limit but transfer wont restart even after exiting program. Is there any other step I can take other than removing transfer from queue?

Hey can I know if you get any error when you resume the torrent after clearing the history. Does the status say its downloading or its queued ?
