Linux by itself is known for overcoming the limits of other Operating Systems, One such is the size of the distribution. Linux can vary from few Kilobyte to multiple Gigabyte based on the features and applications included in it.

Damn Small Linux” is one of the linux distribution that is known for its light weight. This article is a prelude to my next article on How to create a Bootable USB Linux using “Universal USB Installer”.

Features of Damn Small Linux

  1. Light weighted - Best for Backup Purposes. Total Size of the Distribution is less than 50 Mb.
  2. Bootable from USB Linux Support
  3. Bootable Live CD Support
  4. Bootable inside Windows, without any additional software requirement. Works like an application.
  5. Can be fully resided on RAM itself – Occupies around 128Mb.
  6. Applications include – a Browser( Firefox), Word Processor (TED), Email (Sylpheed), Image Editor, Picture Viewer, Instant Messaging, VOIP, Multimedia Player and lot more required for normal usage.
  7. Can be extended using MySQL.
  8. Supports both Xvesa and Xfbdev – the 2 famous X Servers in Linux.
