On some days, with other advertising networks we were making $20-plus a day. With AdBrite? 19 cents. Their customer service is horrible (the people they hire seem to have the IQ of a chipmunk) and, as you said, most of the time there are no ads on your site just an AdBrite block saying "Advertise with AdBrite". We dropped them after a few months. A total waste of time. AdBrite is absolutely garbage. On some days, with other advertising networks we were making $20-plus a day. With AdBrite? 19 cents.
