How to Enable or Disable Task Manager in Windows

This is one of the frequent faced problem by every Window user, especially on the case of a virus attack, your Task Manager, Registry Editor and other Administration tools will be locked out. Though you can download any bug fixing tools to get enable them back, they can be very well done without theme.

Enable Task Manager

  1. Click on the Start Menu and invoke the “Run” Command.

  2. Enter gpedit.msc in the Run Window and click “OK” button, this will invoke the Group Policy Editor.

  3. Now browse to “User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Ctrl + Alt + Del” Option.

  4. Now in the right panel, double click on “Remove Task Manager“.
  5. A window will open and display three options in it, “Not Configured“, “Enabled“, “Disabled“.

  6. Select “Disable” option and click “Ok” button.
  7. Thats it now the TASK MANAGER will be enabled.

TroubleShooting

Problem:Some Cases even after enabling the Task Manager, it get disabled again automatically.
Solution:This case your computer is infected with some virus, which runs in the background. This case its advisable to first scan your computer for virus and malware.

    This can easily done if u r maintaining a network from the server level.. If it should be applied in the individual machine this is the easiest way..

    Wow, the task manager disappeared on a friends PC and you could not find out what to do to get it back. He eventually just reformatted his PC. I think is way quicker, thanks for sharing this info. I will be sharing this with that same friend for future use.

    Cool tip! Once this had happened to my college PC and most people were worries that all the college computers were attacked with a virus which disabled the Task Manager. May be some windows Geek would have played a prank.

      lol. I have done this to one of my friend’s computer, blocked both Task Manager and Registry Editor.

      The procedure is same for enabling and disabling, so i put them both on title, lol,

    I already knew about enabling the Task Manager through Gpedit.msc but thanks for mentioning Task Manager Fix. It is helpful and might come in handy.
