How to configure Evolution in linux

The guide explains how to configure Evolution Email Client for linux. Evolution comes with the same feature set of Microsoft Outlook. In this example I have configured Gmail on Evolution.

Step 1:

This is the screen you get the first time you open Evolution. Click on “Forward”.

Step 2: Creating profile

a) Enter any name for the account

b) Enter your Email address

c) The other options are not mandatory

Step 3: Configuring Incoming Mail

a) Server Type -  POP

b) Server -  pop.gmail.com

c) Username  – <Enter your Email address)

d) Use Secure Connection – SSL Encryption

e) Authentication Type – Password

Step 4: Configuring Receiving Mail options

a) Incase you want to check your mail automatically “check the first box and set the preferred time ”

b) “Leave messages on server” – To either retain the files on the server or not.

Step 5:  Configuring Sending Mail

a) Server Type: SMTP

b) Server – smtp.gmail.com

c) Check Server Requires Authentication

d) User Secure Connection – SSL Encryption

e) Authentication Type: Plain

f) Username: <Your-Email-id>

Step 6: Completion

Thus Evolution Email Client is set up. Make sure to apply the changes .

Enter the password to login and click “OK”

    This is the first time I heard abt evolution.. Till now i m using ThunderBird and i m happy with it.. Thanks for the info..

    I once tried Thunderbird when I was using XP, but later rolled back to Outlook. Evolution comes by default with OpenSUSE and most of the linux distros.

    Same here. Never heard of Evolution and actually thought that this post was going to cover the topic of “Linux Evolution” over past years :P

    Ya the image was indeed big. I will make them future images small size.
